FAQ: Can I attend an ABRaS training session?

Runners interested in improving their speed, fitness or endurance are welcome to attend ABRaS training, including the Track sessions on Mondays, as well as to the other locations on Wednesdays.

However, it is important that newcomers understand that our use of the track is an ABRaS Club privilege and we want them to abide by certain guidelines, just to ensure we never upset our generous hosts and lose the training facility we have worked very hard to access.

These guidelines are as follows:

  • I-Pods: Our sessions are generally held in the dark and we are often running close together. Its not safe for you or your fellow runners if you wear an I-Pod. You need to be able to hear instructions.
  • Three-session try-out: Everyone can try our training sessions on up to 3 occasions (irrespective of where that training is held Meadows, Safa or Track). After 3 sessions, you are required to join ABRaS AC in order to continue training with us.
  • Membership: ABRaS AC members are free to join or remain members of any other sporting clubs.
  • Training attendance: Once a member, you can attend as many or as few of the twice-weekly group sessions as you like. There is no limit, nor obligation. You will also be added to a mailing list such that you will receive the schedule for each training session. This allows you, for example, to do the training session on your own if other commitments prevent you from attending group training.
  • Membership fees: Membership fees are set at 250 AED for adults and 50 AED for those under 18 for the calendar year of 2009. There is no discount on these fees on any basis, irrespective of month of joining, or number, or location, of sessions attended. Included in your fee, you will receive a club vest.
  • New runners interested in training with ABRaS are requested to attend a Wednesday session first. New runners can just turn up on a Wednesday night at club training or contact the Duty Runner.

And especially for Track use (Monday night sessions):

  • Arrive on time: Newcomers must arrive on time for track sessions. This means arriving actually at the track between 6.15pm and 6.30pm.

ABRaS AC is organised and administered by willing volunteers for the benefit of those who want to train hard in their running. We hope you like it.
