Club Championship Results 2009/2010

Welcome to the Club Champs - these have been set up so as to provide motivation and competition within ABRaS and encourage you to turn out and represent the club. Competition exists at all levels of the champs and just because you're not challenging for the top spot doesn't mean you can't have fun competing at your level and challenging yourself to improve over (or just survive) the full racing season.

The club champ titles are open to all club members and the rules for participation and basis upon which the club champs will be awarded are as follows:

1. Participation is limited to ABRaS members.
2. Awards will be made to a Junior Male Club Champion a Junior Female Club Champion a Senior Male Club Champion and a Senior Female Club Champion. The junior categories are for anyone under the age of 18, while the senior categories are for anyone over the age of 18. Beyond these categories there will be no age related handicapping.
3. Points will be awarded based upon your official race position relative to the other Competing ABRaS Members in your category. The scoring is formula 1 style with 10 points awarded for first, 9 points for second, etc all the way down to 2 points for ninth and then from tenth onwards everyone gets 1 point.
4. For Senior categories the awards will be made based upon your best six results.
5. For Junior categories the awards will be made based upon your best five results.
6. In the event of a draw for Club Champion the results of those drawing will be extended to include one further result until a clear champion is established.
7. For your race result to count towards the club champs you must be wearing club colours (ABRaS vest) i.e. sorry, no ABRaS vest then no championship result for that particular race.
8. Sanctioned events that count towards the JUNIOR categories are as follows:
   1. 10-Sep-10 (tbc) - Iftar 5k, Autodrome
   2. 1-Oct-10 - Supersports 4k [Not 8k]
   3. 22-Oct-10, 4-Feb-11, 1-Apr-11 – ABRaS 10k race - any ONE (but only ONE to count)
   4. 26-Nov-10 - ABRaS XC
   5. Jan-11 (tbc) - Junior Track Meet - 1500m
   6. 7-Jan-11 – Supersports 4k [Not 8k]
   7. 21-Jan-11 – SC Dubai 10k
   8. 18-Mar-11 – DRR Junior Race
   9. March / April-11 (tbc)– Milers Cheeky 5k
   10. 6-May-11 – Supersports 4k [Not 8k]
   11. 13-May-11 - Interclub Track Meet - 800m
   12. ??-May-11 (tbc) – ABRaS 3,000m
9. IMPORTANT: The 'Junior categories' include an extensive age and developmental range and this must be considered when selecting events to compete in. A good guideline is the UKA rules which advise age (on day of race) and maximum race distance as follows: +11 to 13 years 4,000m; +13 to 15 years 6,000m; +15 years 10,000m; +16 years 16,000m; +17 years 25,000m; and +18 years marathon. Here in UAE further consideration must also be given to the extremes of temperature that can be encountered. If you are unsure of your ability or your child's ability to race over certain distances please consult with ABRaS juniors coach, Tony. Remember, no underage marathon running!
10. Sanctioned events that count towards the SENIOR categories are as follows:
    1. 15-Sep-10 (tbc) - Iftar 5k, Autodrome
    2. 1-Oct-10 - Supersports 8k
    3. 8-Oct-10 (tbc) - ABRaS Hill Champs
    4. 22-Oct-10, 4-Feb-11, 1-Apr-11 – ABRaS 10k race - any TWO (but only TWO to count)
    5. 5-Nov-10 - AD Striders Half-marathon [Not 10k]
    6. 12-Nov-10 - Mirdif Milers 10 miler
    7. 26-Nov-10 - ABRaS XC
    8. 10-Dec-10 - DCS Half-marathon
    9. 21-Jan-11 – SC Dubai Marathon & 10k
    10. 18-Feb-11 - RAK International Half-marathon
    11. 18-Mar-11 – DRR 10k
    12. March / April-11 (tbc)– Milers Cheeky 5k
    13. 6-May-11 – Supersports 8k
    14. ??-May-11 (tbc) – ABRaS 3,000m
11. ABRaS Committee reserve the right to update and amend the selected races and rules for participation as seasonal events may dictate.
    

Throughout the season the status will be monitored and updates will be advised via club e-mails following each of the scheduled races such that you may tweak your training and tactics. The prestigious title, club champ shield and lots of other goodies will be awarded on an annual basis to champs and runners up at the end of season social.
