REGISTRATION UPDATE FOR THE 2017 BOSTON MARATHON

Registration for the 2017 Boston Marathon will re-open on Monday, September 19, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. ET and will continue through Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. ET.

During this period, any eligible qualifier may submit an application for entry. Please note that entry is not first-come, first-served during this period. The fastest qualifiers in their gender and age group will gain acceptance as space allows.

Those accepted for entry will be notified via email and their names will be posted to the "Entrants" page of this website. Entry will be based on the amount of remaining field size space and an applicant's qualifying performance.

The first week of registration concluded at 10:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, September 17, during which time those qualifiers who bettered the standard by 20 minutes, then 10 minutes, and finally by five minutes for their age group and gender could submit their online entry.

The large volume of applications received during the registration period, combined with other factors such as the qualifying race submitted, results in an applicant's submission taking a variable amount of time to be validated and ultimately receiving notification of acceptance into next April's race. Please note that the time it takes to verify information does vary from one individual to another. Only at the conclusion of each entry period are acceptance notifications issued. Due to the many applications for entry received, several days are required to perform verification checks on the data and to validate qualifying performances.

Due to field size limitations, it is quite possible that not all qualifiers who submit an entry will be accepted. If more runners apply than can be accepted, then acceptance will be granted to the fastest qualifiers among the applicants. Those not accepted for entry due to field size limitations also will receive an email from the B.A.A., and their credit cards will not be processed (although credit cards will be held for authorization through the registration period). Again, please note that it will take our registration team several days to perform this step of the application and notification process.

Anyone interested in applying for entry into the Boston Marathon must first meet the qualifying standard for his or her age group and gender prior to submitting an application. It is not possible to register prior to running a qualifying performance.

The B.A.A. will not predict or provide an anticipated date for when the race will reach its maximum field of qualified applicants. We also will not predict the so-called "cut off" time below the qualification time for each age and gender which will gain an individual entry into the Boston Marathon. The total number of qualifiers and their qualifying times determine such cut off time, if that becomes applicable.

However, the B.A.A.'s website, Facebook page and Twitter account will indicate the open or closed status of registration for the 2017 Boston Marathon, and these pages are updated regularly.
